Revolutionary Galway Tour

While County Galway rose in defence of the newly proclaimed Irish Republic in 1916 [see Jim’s Galway 1916 Tour], Galway City remained loyal to either the parliamentary Nationalist or Unionist tradition. However, during the War for Independence or Tan War, Galway city experienced some brutality from Crown Forces. While it may not have been burned down like Cork city was, or experienced the conflict Dublin did, nevertheless Galway was the scene of limited activity by IRA and Crown Forces.

Jim’s Revolutionary Tour of Galway focuses mainly on the events of 1920 where there were a number of incidents around the city.
