Tour of traditional pubs to sample the ‘rare ould dew’ – Walking Tour
Join me on a tour of the best of the old pubs of Galway City to sample the different whiskies of Ireland, and maybe of Scotland and some bourbons too (if you can take all that!)
Learn about the craft of whiskey making, the blends and about Galway’s history of whiskey. Included is a discussion of Perrse’s Galway Whiskey, associated with Lady Gregory, Edward VII and the British House of Commons.
Tour ends with an explanation of poitín – illicit Irish moonshine, still distilled in the mountains of Connemara today!
On every street and round every turn you’ll find entertainment – either live busking and traditional sean nós dancing or discover some interesting historical nuggets.
This nice walkabout with me is about discovering relevant nuggets of information about Galway and wider afield.
ITINERARY – though not exclusive to:
- O’Connell’s Pub, Eyre Square, where Ed Sheeran recorded the video of Galway Girl
- Garavan’s Pub which boasts an authentic old pub snug (where the women used to have to drink once upon a time)

- Freeney’s Pub, with a shop and a pub in one
